Good Shepherd Preschools celebrated Foundress Day on 21 April 2023. The theme for this year was ‘Gratitude” our Foundress quote ‘Gratitude is the memory of the heart’.
The session started off with an Opening Prayer, Ice Breaking Games, Commissioning of new staff and Renewal of Commissioning for the rest of the staff.
Our invited guest Sr Jean Marie shared about ‘Gratitude’, A heart created to love and be grateful. We had three teachers to share their personal experience about ‘Gratitude’. Also shared about how the teachers share our core value ‘Gratitude’ with the children.
This year we had gift exchange, which was very meaningful as the participants brought a gift which they like and left on the assigned tables. After lunch the participants are to listen to the MC’s instructions and walk around the gift tables to get a gift they like. Then a few of them were invited to share why they chose this gift?
As usual we had a scrumptious buffet dinner.
We ended the session with a closing message from Ms Tan ‘How to cultivate Gratitude’ and a token was distributed to all staff.
On 24 April 2023, the children were introduced to the history of Mother Foundress to increase awareness of the significance behind the celebration.
Children were engaged through songs related to Mother Foundress. The school also collaborated with Bishan Town Council, where 10 community workers were invited to the celebration. Children presented handmade food hampers to the migrant community workers, together with baked cookies and some craftwork (bookmarks and cards) that the children had prepared. The children thanked to the migrant community workers for their hard work to keep Singapore clean & tidy.
Through these activities, staff and children learnt about the hardships that St. Mary Euphrasia had went through and understood that as receivers of the fruits of her labour, it is our responsibility to spread her values to others in the society.
It was a meaningful and a memorable day!
