Marymount Preschool is a faith-based preschool, children are introduced to the various important catholic events. One of them is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent season.

This year, the Children learnt the significance of Ash Wednesday on 22 February 2023.

It was shared with the children that it was an important day as it marked the beginning of the 40 days of Lent. Children were told that Catholics would attend the Ash Wednesday mass. During the mass celebration, all attending mass would walk down the aisle and the priests would mark the sign of the cross on their foreheads with ashes.

Children were told that the ashes were made by burning dried palm leaves from last year’s Palm Sunday. The sign of the cross reminded the children about Jesus’ love for each one of us and He had died for our sins.

The teachers shared with the children that Lent is a journey where we were reminded to pray, ask God for forgiveness and come back to Him with all our hearts. The children also shared that Lent was a time where we could give up something or give back by almsgiving or helping others.

Some of our K1/ K2 children also shared their little sacrifices they chose to do during this Lenten season.
