On the 28 th March, our school assembly was about Holy Thursday and Good Friday. The assembly started off with the opening prayer, songs and then Ms Cristina explained to the children that Holy Thursday is the day before Good Friday. Jesus had his last supper with his disciples and before the supper, He knelt down on his knees and washed the feet of his disciples. Jesus, Son of God washed the feet of his disciples so that we too may follow to be like Him, in his humility and his love for each one of us.
To commemorate this act of humility, 12 K2 boys were chosen to represent the disciples and were called upon the stage to be seated on the chairs. Our school Executive Director Ms Tan Poh Cheng and a few other teachers took turns to wash the feet of the 12 students and wiped their feet using paper towels. Ms Tan Poh Cheng asked the children how they felt when their feet were being washed. Most of the children replied that they felt great, some said they felt happy.
The children were informed that this ritual will take place in the Roman Catholic Churches all around the world on Holy Thursday. Ms Cristina showed a video of Jesus on the cross and explained to the children that on Good Friday Jesus died on the cross for each one of us.
The children sang a few more bible songs in English and in Mandarin, Chai Laoshi ended the assembly with the closing prayer.
On the 4 th April, Wednesday, we had our Easter assembly led by Yan Laoshi and I. We showed a YouTube video of Jesus risen from the tomb. We also had a role play done by Ms Lyn (as a child) and Yan Laoshi (as a teacher). In the first scene the child is playing with toys and the teacher instructs her to tidy up. At first the child resists but the second time she obeys, this is to show the children that they must be obedient. The next scene, shows the child falling down and crying, and, the other child coming to her help. This is to show the children how to help one another.
The children sang a few Easter songs with actions in English and in Mandarin, led by a few teachers who were invited on the stage. Yan Laoshi ended the assembly with the closing prayer.
The children from every level made different types of Easter craft and brought them back home happily.
